Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical periodontal treatment usually recommended when diagnosed with periodontal disease. Early treatment of periodontal disease can prevent irrevocable damage … book an appointment quickly and prevent the spread of bacteria!
The scaling and root planing treatment begins with local anesthesia of the area to be treated. The procedure often requires the use of manual instruments and an ultrasound machine to clean up plaque and stone buildup. Your dentist will use them under the gum line to purge the roots of the teeth and smooth out rough surfaces. The purpose of this deep cleaning process is to remove plaque and tartar as well as to smooth the surface of the teeth so as to facilitate the reattachment of the gum tissue to them.
