Why Inova Dental

Making Your Dental Trip Suck A Little Less

Let’s be honest, going to the dentist isn’t exactly fun. We get it, having someone digging around in your mouth straight up sucks, so we do our best to make the experience a little less uncomfortable.

We treat people like people, that means honest answers, no unnecessary procedures, and actually listening to your concerns. You use your teeth every single day, so it’s important to us that we get it right the first time. Every time.

Dental care should feel personal, comfortable, and supportive from start to finish. Because you're more than a rushed in-and-out appointment.

CDCP

Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

The Government of Canada created the CDCP to help make dental care more accessible and affordable for Canadians. The program provides comprehensive dental coverage to eligible residents who previously had little to no access to dental insurance. See if you qualify:

  • Canadian Resident: You are a Canadian resident. This is for tax purposes.

  • Tax Return: You have filed a tax return in the previous year.

  • No Private Access: Have no private access to dental issuance. Typically, paid through employee benefits.

  • Income Level: Your adjusted family income is under $90,000 per year.

FAQ

Common Questions Patients Have Before Visiting

Have questions about your visit? Well we’ve got the answers.

  • Is there parking available?

Yes, free parking is available at both locations.

  • How long does a typical appointment take?

A routine cleaning and checkup usually takes about an hour. Longer treatments will vary depending on what's involved — we'll always give you a realistic time estimate when you book so you can plan your day accordingly.

  • How do I transfer my dental records from my previous dentist?

Just let us know at booking and we'll take care of it. We'll contact your previous provider directly to request your records so you don't have to chase anything down yourself.

  • Do you see walk-in patients?

Call ahead if you can — it helps us make sure we have time set aside for you. That said, if you're in pain or dealing with an emergency, call us and we'll do our best to get you in the same day.

  • Can I request a specific dentist or hygienist?

Absolutely. If you have a preferred provider at either location just let us know when booking and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

  • What if my CDCP application is still being processed?

If your application is pending we may still be able to see you depending on the treatment needed. Call us and we'll figure out the best path forward together.

  • Does CDCP cover Invisalign or braces?

No. Orthodontic treatments like Invisalign and braces are not covered under CDCP. These are considered cosmetic and fall outside the scope of the plan.

  • How often can I use my CDCP benefits?

CDCP benefits reset annually. Certain services have frequency limits — for example cleanings are typically covered once or twice per year depending on your plan. We'll help you understand what's available at your appointment.

  • Does CDCP require preauthorization for certain treatments?

Yes. Some treatments including certain crowns, root canal retreatments, and surgical procedures require preauthorization from Sun Life before we can proceed. We'll handle that process on your behalf and let you know if it applies to your treatment.

  • What if I'm not sure whether I qualify for CDCP?

Call us or come in. We deal with CDCP regularly and can help you figure out whether you're likely eligible before you even book an appointment. It's worth checking — a lot of people who qualify don't realise it.

  • How do I know which location I'm booking at?

Each location has its own icon to help you tell them apart. Our Bank St. location uses a Moth icon and our Orleans location uses a Butterfly icon. Make sure you confirm which location you're booking at before finalizing your appointment.

  • Do I need to bring anything?

If you have dental insurance, bring your insurance card or plan details. If you have existing dental records or X-rays from a previous dentist, those are helpful but not required.

  • How often should I come in for a checkup?

Most patients benefit from a checkup and cleaning every 4-6 months. Depending on your oral health needs, your dentist may recommend a different schedule — we'll let you know what's right for you.

  • How far in advance do I need to book?

It varies depending on availability, but we recommend calling ahead to secure a time that works for you. For urgent dental concerns, let us know and we'll do our best to see you promptly.

  • Can I book for my whole family at once?

Absolutely. We're a family dental clinic and welcome patients of all ages, from young children to adults. Just let us know when booking and we'll do our best to schedule everyone together.

  • What's the right way to brush my teeth?

Hold your brush at a 45 degree angle to your gums and use gentle circular motions. Avoid scrubbing back and forth aggressively — it wears down enamel and irritates gums over time. Think gentle and thorough, not fast and hard.

  • How often should I floss?

Once a day. Flossing removes plaque and food from between teeth where your brush can't reach. Skipping it means roughly 35 percent of each tooth's surface never gets cleaned.

  • How do I know if I have a cavity?

Sometimes you won't, cavities don't always cause pain until they're more advanced, which is one of the main reasons regular checkups matter. Sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet foods and visible dark spots are signs worth getting checked.

  • Can stress affect my oral health?

More than most people realise. Stress is a leading cause of teeth grinding, jaw clenching, and canker sores. It can also weaken your immune system making you more susceptible to gum disease. If you're going through a stressful period it's worth mentioning.

  • What is enamel and how do I protect it?

Enamel is the hard outer layer of your tooth. Once it's gone it doesn't grow back, which makes protecting it important. Limit acidic food and drinks, avoid brushing immediately after eating acidic things, use a fluoride toothpaste, and don't use your teeth as tools.

  • This was the best dental experience I had. The dental assistant Petra was so friendly and welcoming, she explained everything they’re going to do. Abby, the hygienist, was genuine and professional. She did a great job cleaning my teeth. I have a trip in a week and I wanted to get another teeth whitening session and a filling done before I leave. She was so accommodating and was willing to open the clinic early or stay after closing hours to work around my work schedule.
Absolutely recommend this clinic.

  • Had an incredible experience at Inova Dental. I had an emergency and spoke with Dr. Abby, who told me to come in even though they were about to close. They kept the clinic open past closing just for me, despite me never having been a patient before. Dr. Louis took great care of me and fixed me up the same day. I wasn’t a patient before, but I’ll definitely be one from now on. Huge thanks to Inova Dental!
